Tyco Electronics Wireless Systems Awarded Contract to Upgrade Arizona’s Salt River Project Communication System to 900 MHz OpenSky Network
LOWELL, Mass. – Sept. 22, 2008

Tyco Electronics Wireless Systems, a worldwide leader of critical radio communication systems, today announced it has been awarded a contract by the Salt River Project (SRP), located in Phoenix, Arizona, to upgrade the utility’s existing 900 MHz EDACS communication system to an Internet Protocol-based (IP) 900 MHz OpenSky communication system. The OpenSky system will expand the coverage area for the day-to-day voice communications needs of water, electrical, service and emergency personnel. SRP’s radio system will also allow for future expansion to accommodate data communications for the more than 1,400 radio users on the network.

As one of Arizona’s largest electricity providers, it is critical for our service staff to have dependable communications, not only to better serve our customers, but also to ensure the safety of all of our field personnel,” said Ron Taylor, senior principal engineer, SRP. “Our EDACS system has served us well, and we are ready to transition to the future of critical communications with the OpenSky system.
We’re confident this upgrade will enhance our communications capabilities and provide us with the coverage, the capacity, the features and the reliability we require to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of our work.”
